The Sr. Manager, Custom Research will support the strategic & foundational knowledge needs of the organization and specifically the Foodservice and On-Premise Sales & Marketing functions through best-in-class qualitative & quantitative research. Specifically, this role will 1) identify CCNA best practices in research methodology, 2) deploy those in partnership with approved suppliers against key Company initiatives & knowledge gaps, and 3) commercialize this learning through clear & impactful presentations to stakeholders.

The role requires advanced knowledge of marketing research methodologies & techniques, project management principles, and knowledge management protocols. Strong communication skills (verbal, written, & visual), ability to influence others, and collaboration in a matrixed environment will also be key to success in this role.

Function Specific Activities:

Function Related Activities / Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of annual/multiyear research plans in collaboration with area stakeholders & Insights peers against strategic & foundational knowledge gaps that have broad applicability or targeted high-impact value to a specific initiative.  Proactively identify these gaps and build a recommended action plan for rapid learning & experimentation with a focus on staged progress (version 1.0, 2.0, …)
  • Identify the need for custom research (e.g., consumer, customer, or channel) in working with Insights peers/leadership & Decision Science, while integrating insights with other internal or syndicated resources.  Includes managing suppliers and associated research budget & methodologies, initiating & reviewing fieldwork, determining analytic plans, and generating final reports/presentations to commercialize the intelligence.
  • Generate new knowledge innovation approaches and methodologies by assessing current best external approaches and/or global strategy & insights protocols and modifying to fit CCNA needs in order to support forward thinking within our system.
  • Monitor contractual agreements & invoicing with vendors and suppliers in order to ensure that all rights are being delivered, all obligations fulfilled, all opportunities maximized and objectives (e.g., ROI) are met.
  • Responsibilities include routine interaction with cross-functional leaders; direct interaction expected with:
  • Channel Strategy VP / Directors
  • Foodservice Marketing Directors
  • Insights Group Directors / Directors
  • RGM Leadership

Education Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's Degree

Required Work Experience: 

Minimum

  • 5+ years of experience in marketing research within the consumer goods industry
  • Experience in working directly with research suppliers

Preferred

  • 7+ years of experience in marketing research
  • Experience in personally managing a research budget & all aspects of supplier relationship
  • System experience and advanced knowledge of proprietary tools (ISHOP, Bev360, CBL)

Functional Skills:   

  • Business Consulting Skills:  Ability to identify opportunities and gaps for both KO and customers/channels via a holistic understanding of business fundamentals and application of quantitative and qualitative industry, consumer and shopper insights.
  • Communication Skills:  Ability to communicate complex information and implications both verbally, in interactions with senior customer leaders, and in written presentations, utilizing "storytelling techniques" to communicate a clear, compelling and cohesive story.
  • Analytic Skills:  Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data to identify patterns, opportunities and gaps, and integrate across disparate data sources.
  • Marketing Research Knowledge: Knowledge of industry resources (e.g., Nielsen/IRI, Mintel, Kantar, shopper card data, etc.), custom research methodologies & best practices (concept testing, TURF, CDTs, A&U, questionnaire design), and proprietary tools (e.g., Bev360, CBL, ISHOP, etc.).
  • Technical Familiarity: Ability to learn and effectively use information/business tools and platforms (i.e., CCV software platform, MS Office Suite, MarketLogic, SPSS, etc.) to obtain and analyze relevant information.
