Position Overview:

This Senior Electronics Engineer will report to the Director of Equipment Engineering within the Global R&D Engineering organization. This position is primarily responsible for leading the research and development of electronics and electrical systems for new to the world equipment consisting of vending machines, fountain dispensers, coolers and other emerging beverage equipment platforms. The responsibilities will include electrical design, hardware and software controls, prototyping, experimentation and validation of prototype systems.

Function Specific Activities:

Function Related Activities/Key Responsibilities

  • Brainstorm and create new technology for solving complex challenges.  Works with broader team to design a full system solution.
  • Design and develop electrical/electronic boards and assemblies to deliver the desired functionality.  These include Single board computers, CANopen boards and other daughter/side boards that perform motor controls
  • Knowledgeable with the design, development of Embedded Control based hardware/firmware and other facilitating electronic circuitry.  Adept at Process development for custom analog and digital design boards.
  • Design and assess overall machine electrical system for safety, regulatory compliance, and desired functionality.  Knowledgeable of domestic and international regulatory bodies and standards ( FCC, UL, CE). 
  • Applies fundamental engineering tools and concepts (such as Design for Manufacturing and Testability, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Root Cause Analysis) to equipment design, manufacturing processes, and customer applications in order to improve quality, costs, efficiencies, or fitness for use.
  • Debug hardware and firmware issues.  Familiar with C or C++ for firmware development and support
  • Conduct disciplined lab testing and experimentation to validate reliable functionality of prototype solutions.  Direct technicians on experimentation and data collection activities.
  • Scope and manage multiple development workstreams with external consultants.  Establish success criteria for new to the world technology and develop test plans to validate prototype solutions. 
  • Manage multiple projects and consultants, Hosts design reviews and project management routines, updates senior leadership on project status, risks and opportunities.

Education Requirements: 

  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience is required. 
  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.

Related Work Experience: 

  • 5-7 years related experience. 
  • Experience building prototype solutions and solving complex problems. 

Functional Skills:

  • Complex problem-solving: The ability to identify technical performance gaps, use data mining and analytical tools to characterize the business impact and identify root causes, and use engineering skills and tools to develop and implement solutions to complex problems with significant impact
  • Expert knowledge of controls design with Embedded software skills such as C or C++ programming preferred with motor controls
  • Embedded control based digital and analog electronic hardware design, simulation, prototype and test, hardware/software debug and defect resolution and data analysis,
  • Knowledge of domestic and international regulatory agency approvals for product safety, electromagnetic emissions and susceptibility and other environmental impairments preferred.
  • Project Management: Ability to lead projects that involve cross-functional teams. Includes the ability to manage moderate budgets, moderate scopes, a few suppliers and/or team members from partner companies
  • Engineering Skills: Knowledge of and the ability to understand, design, apply and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems
  • Managing Technical Supplier Relationships: Knowledge of and the ability to influence technical relationships for design improvement, manufacturing efficiencies, and quality management
  • Reliability Engineering: Knowledge of and the ability to understand, design, and conduct lab/field evaluation of the ability of a system to perform its stated function over a specified period of time.
  • Skilled at hands-on prototyping and building breadboard systems.
  • Effective written and oral communication with cross-functional teams and management
