Position Overview

This role reports to the Automation Manager and is based at our process manufacturing plant based in Ballina, Co. Mayo. Working within the Engineering Function, the objective of this role is to support technical aspects of the Liquids / Dry Parts Value work stream from a core, automation engineering based skillset, associated with Batch, PLC and SCADA systems.
This involves interrogating at PLC level, machines and processes that support the overall automated production systems which run on a 24hour basis. The key aspects of the role include:
- Providing a trouble shooting service, working with software systems which forms the basis of automated traceability for KORE compliance;
- Providing technical support of our Scada systems which are used for production monitoring and display of complex process and packaging systems;
- Developing proactive automation solutions for scope, cost and schedule evaluation;
- Executing software upgrades and bespoke software development on their own;
- Manage strategic projects from initiation to completion;
- Actively lead application of Continuous Improvement tools and techniques closely aligned with business requirements.

    KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply proactive and methodical approach to trouble shooting daily shift production issues with cross functional teams;
  • Perform detailed, technical breakdown analysis of losses / inefficiencies in your work stream and to ensure that quantitative, automated data is readily available to stakeholders in a timely manner;
  • Take ownership and lead the development, agreement and execution of cross functional resolution plans inorder to address gaps in throughput, quality, safety and environmental metrics;
  • Project manages automation centered projects & control system modification, ensuring that verification & validation procedures are implemented;
  • Provide technology roadmap in line with the business strategic direction.
  • Apply operational excellence tools and techniques to continuously improve our processes and eliminate waste.

COMMUNICATION COMPLEXETIES

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) participation in world - wide distributed work teams within the system to leverage learnings and to ensure standardization.
  • Benchmarking with other organizations to ensure best practice.

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • A minimum of 8 years relevant experience is essential in programming systems support preferably in a food or process environment.
  • Alan Bradley Control Logix & PLC5 programming essential.
  • Knowledge of control networks essential.
  • Experience of RSView SE, iFix or Intouch SCADA configuration.
  • Electrical & Instrumentation expertise.
  • Knowledge of recipe or batch software.
  • Experience in Access, VB and SQL is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience of delivering projects in a highly automated environment.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A recognised Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • 5-10%
