Position Overview:

Key thought leader in newly created group responsible for discovering and developing a portfolio of next generation growth innovations, both products, capabilities and services. Leveraging an eco system of investors, strategic partners and entrepreneurs, this role will lead identification and advancement of key strategic venture and investment platforms for EGP (Emerging Growth Platforms) in the Coca-Cola Japan business.

Role also responsible for working closely with team of project platform owners to determine key strategic needs for growth of portfolio. Once identified, via network of potential partners, transactions (M&A, JVs, collaboration) will be developed, negotiated and implemented to drive incremental growth of future forward beverage brands and technologies.

Additionally, the role will guide the economic and strategic direction of the total EGP portfolio to ensure delivery of department goals.

Function Specific Activities:

Key Activities/Objectives

Biz Development

  • Leverage understanding of beverage industry consumers, brands and competitors and operational needs, to collaborate with EGP project managers to develop strategic direction for portfolio.
  • Identify and build relationships with potential partners who will help project platforms grow revenue while balancing impact on value chain.  These partners will bring new brands, capabilities or know how to CCJC. 
  • Develop strategy of partnerships including strategic fit, value creation, risk management, timeline of growth and long term vision of purpose. Strategy should help EGP manage the overall risk and costs of innovation growth and compliment internal efforts and capabilities.
  • Attend trade shows, entrepreneur pitch  competitions, and various external events to advance network of contacts and potential partners.

Transactions

  • Drive growth via creation and execution of strategic business transactions, e.g., M&A, alliances, licensing arrangements, etc.,
  • Collaborate with in-house M&A lead on development of financial modeling and valuations, negotiations with counter parties, as well as liaison with the Corporate M&A team and other related functions.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop new business models with revenue from incremental/newly monetized sources - services, data, vending, etc.

Portfolio Economics, Strategy and Metrics

Build tools and processes to evaluate ongoing growth contributions and road map of overall portfolio:

  • Create vision of portfolio growth via model of multi-year potential projects and transactions. 
  • Assess actual growth created from acquired, invested, jointly developed and internally developed projects via score carding and valuation assessment.
  • Must be able to identify value impacts of time, growth, and industry success/failure rates to determine course of action on current and future transactions.
  • Provides CCJC and System leadership with in-depth analysis and insight of emerging and future competitive forces based on a understanding of future consumer landscape.   This may include analysis of overall strategic direction, profit pools, as well as potential opportunities and implications for CCJC from a competitive perspective.
  • Oversee analysis of key portfolio metrics to determine progress against mission and goals. Metrics will include both quantitative and qualitative.   

Technical/Functional Skills:

  • Experience in strategy and business plan development, inclusive of problem resolution and opportunity assessment
  • Excellent analytical ability and objective analytical approach
  • Strong project management skills, including project scoping, brief development, and project team leadership to drive tangible results
  • Effective communication and ability to manage appropriate dialogue at all organizational levels
  • Ability to exert personal influence and build value-based relationships
  • Excellent people development and team leadership skills
  • Financial acumen (nimble with P&L, key ratios, and balance sheet with focus on economic profit and return on invested capital)

At least 10 Years experience from beverage/FMCG company in strategy, finance/M&A or general/project management. Strong financial skills critical
