Position Overview:

The Operations Manager will report directly to the General Manager and is primarily responsible for leading the overall Production and Maintenance functions within the Paw Paw Manufacturing facility.

Function Specific Activities:

Key Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Ensure compliance with all company, customer, and regulatory requirements including:
  • Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Food Safety regulations
  • OSHA/MI-OSHA
  • EPA
  • Internal Controls
  • ISO
  • Develop, implement, and lead strategies/action plans that will ensure that all goals are met and/or exceeded.  The primary focus areas are:
  • Safety
  • Quality
  • Service to sales
  • Productivity/Costs
  • Leadership development 
  • Employee training
  • Drive results through employee engagement and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Drive results through cross-functional collaboration with Product Development, Procurement, Suppliers, Engineering, Quality, Supply Planning, the National Product Supply Group, and other functions.
  • Work with the QA Manager and our Supply Partners to resolve quality defects and help develop corrective actions to eliminate failures.
  • Participate in all plant audits (internal and external) and assist in the development of procedures and corrective actions
  • Oversee and lead the implementation of the ISO systems and operational standards as outlined in the plant accountability list
  • Assist Team Leaders with performance management and employee development, etc.
  • Champion the development of the Team Leaders through monthly Performance Enablement feedback sessions, career development plans, and succession plans. 
  • Ensure compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and timely processing of grievances.  Serve as a key member of CBA negotiating team, attend monthly grievance meetings, work with union and non-union associates to maintain positive employee relations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required with a strong preference for engineering or a technical discipline
  • MBA preferred
  • 10 years of experience in a CPG/FMCG (food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or personal care) manufacturing environment is required
  • 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment is required
  • Thermal processing and packaging experience preferred.
  • Leadership experience within complex manufacturing facilities is strongly preferred

Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of ISO Systems:  ISO9000, 14000, 22000, FSMA
  • Knowledge of OE Tools: Lean, Kaizen, RCA, CI, TPM-AM/PM
  • Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work in cross-functional teams
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
