Position Overview:

The Food Contact Materials (FCM) Risk Assessment Manager will provide subject matter expertise in FCMs and related regulatory frameworks to support business growth and technical governance across multiple functions of The Coca-Cola System (TCCS), assist with the implementation of strategies necessary to ensure the safety and compliance of TCCS FCMs, and affirm the safety of TCCS FCMs by building/maintaining a global network of bottlers and trade associations. This position will be a critical member of the global FCM team led by Director, Food Contact Materials.

Function Specific Activities:


  • Support the Director of Food Contact Materials in the creation, communication and execution of scientific and regulatory strategies to address global FCM safety challenges and to mitigate emerging threats.
  • Partner with cross-functional business teams (Procurement, Product Integrity, and Global R&D) to provide stewardship and governance on FCM safety and compliance reviews.
  • Provide FCM subject matter expertise to TCCS to enable solutions to scientific and regulatory issues. Act as a scientific steward and consultant by preparing responses to targeted questions from the field, other functions, business units, bottlers and customers. This includes acting as a resource for general information and gradually becoming a consultant, mentor and trainer for other technical personnel in TCCS.
  • In collaboration with global SRA colleagues, monitor regulatory development, identify potential SRA risks, implement strategies and policies in response to new safety and regulatory questions on FCMs.
  • Participate in select external organizations related to FCMs to influence outcomes and advance our scientific and regulatory strategies.

Education Requirements: 

  • BS in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.

Related Work Experience: 

  • 5 - 7 years of experience in packaging industry, food or beverage industry, government, trade associations, or related industry in similar roles.

Functional Skills:

  • Compliance and Risk Assessment: Understanding of the means to assess acceptable human exposure to substances in food and food contact materials. Ability to evaluate the data pertaining to the regulation of food contact substances, direct food additives, and contaminants.
  • Food Contact Materials Technology: Knowledge of the technologies, chemistry and related supply chain impact of substances used in food contact materials. Ability to assess the impact, detection and risk in foods and beverages.
  • Food Contact Materials Regulatory Landscape and Advocacy: Knowledge of global regulatory requirements on food contact materials. Ability to create and maintain industry and subject matter expert networks and influence/mitigate regulatory developments
  • Incident Management and Crisis Resolution: Knowledge of Incident Management and Crisis Resolution (IMCR) processes and ability to constructively and succinctly inform internal stakeholders, while engaging any necessary external resources to support defined actions.
