Position Overview:

Manages hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams for the Atlanta Syrup Plant including concentrates, caustic, and product returns.
Coordinates special waste disposal projects including the handling of infectious materials, asbestos, PCBs, hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste.
Develops and conducts employee training on hazardous waste streams.
Advises management on potential hazardous materials and makes recommendations as required.
Maintains records such as hazardous and non-hazardous waste manifests and associated documents.
Responds to hazardous materials spills such as oil, non-hazardous and hazardous; implements clean-up plan.
Performs other SES related duties as assigned

Function Specific Activities:

Essential Duties:

  • Manages hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams for the Atlanta Syrup Plant including concentrates, caustic, and product returns.
  • Coordinates special waste disposal projects including the handling of infectious materials, asbestos, PCBs, hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste.
  • Develops and conducts employee training on hazardous waste streams.
  • Advises management on potential hazardous materials and makes recommendations as required.
  • Maintains records such as hazardous and non-hazardous waste manifests and associated documents.
  • Responds to hazardous materials spills such as oil, non-hazardous and hazardous; implements clean-up plan.
  • Performs other SES related duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.  Associate's degree in technical or related preferred. 
  • Maintain Powered Industrial Truck (Forklift/Scissor-Lift/Pallet Jacks) operator certification.
  • Ability to operate plant via Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
  • Ability to work on projects independently and under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime on an as needed basis.
  • Physical agility including climbing, bending, kneeling, twisting, and lifting minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand instructions given in English. 
  • Ability to read and understand equipment operations manuals, basic electrical and mechanical drawings, and to perform minor maintenance tasks (after training) as related to hazardous materials equipment. 
  • Ability to work eight-hour shifts, twelve-hour shifts, or other work schedules as determined by business need, including overtime as required.  
  • Ability to conduct training of others.   
  • Must be certified on the JHA/JPM for this position within 60 working days of start date. 

Working Conditions:

  • Work involves exposure to temperature extremes, indoor/outdoor transition, work-at -heights, high noise levels, wet conditions, industrial waste, chemicals, dust, moving equipment, vibrations and vapors.  
  • To ensure adequate coverage, vacation schedule may be limited to no more than one full week of time off per calendar year. 
  • Remaining vacation days can be scheduled and taken in less than day-increments with prior approval.

Equipment Used:

  • Waste equipment, personal computer, forklift, hoist, hand cart, hand tools, measuring instruments, equipment operations manuals, and SDS sheets. 
  • Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to safety glasses, steel-toed shoes and hearing protection.

Non-essential Functions:

  • Travel to other locations. 
  • Explain and demonstrate job tasks to visitors. 
  • Order supplies and chemicals. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
