Job Description Summary
This is an Intern role, which will last for one year. The ideal candidate will have recently graduated with a PhD.

Working under the leadership of Director, Nutrition Science and Innovation provides support to the SRA team by collecting, optimizing and disseminating information on nutrition innovation to facilitate Global SRA support of the nutrition innovation strategy and global R&D product development, including functional ingredients and claims. Supports the Director of Nutrition Innovation, in building scientific-based innovation briefs, managing data and coordination related to nutrition science & innovation projects.

Prioritized Responsibilities

  • Collect information and data on nutrition innovation necessary for informing  global growth strategies and R&D product development.
  • Optimize and manage nutrition innovation briefs and information to ensure appropriate maintenance, up-to-date information, as well improve access and format of information for relevant audiences. Coordinate with Nutrition Science Innovation team to maintain internal efficiency and productivity.
  • Assist the team leadership in communications to the internal and external stakeholders (initiative status, gap analysis, risk assessments, scientific briefs)
  • Prepare or Edit draft documents and assist content owners with the development of documentation necessary for internal or external communications (compile scientific innovation briefs, initiative updates, risk assessments).
  • Trawl internet for nutrition insights relevant to growth categories and feed into the NSI team appropriately

Technical skills:

  • Nutrition (positive/negative) health effects: Understanding of basic nutrition science including complexities and controversies related to our portfolio and how foods and nutrients impact maintenance of health and/or obesity and other non-communicable diseases.
  • Nutrition and Labelling knowledge: Knowledge base to support beverage nutrition innovation (e.g., claims substantiation, standards of identity, nutrient bioavailability, product matrix, relevant guidelines and policies regarding ingredients).
  • Nutrition Data Collection: Knowledge of current nutrition science and trends and understanding of related opportunities and challenges as they apply to beverages, our products and ingredients. Ability to effectively leverage sources of nutrition information and transform them in ways that can be utilized for informing innovation or scientific advocacy.
  • Nutrition Information Management: Ability to assess and filter nutrition data and science, so as to support innovation and scientific advocacy.
  • Databases/Data Acquisition: Knowledge of and ability to use technical databases (e.g., scientific, regulatory). Ability to understand and apply hardware and software used in the collection of technical data in a laboratory or field environment.
  • Document Management: Ability to create, approve, track and file documents and records in nutrition science arena.
  • Basic Regulatory Knowledge: General knowledge of the regulatory landscape (e.g., regulations, issues) that may affect the beverage or food industry. This includes recognition and appreciation of differences in the regulatory framework of different countries as well as some knowledge of the major regulatory issues facing the food and beverage industry.
  • Ingredients: Knowledge of key ingredients used in our products (such as sweeteners), as well as functional ingredients
  • Basic Organic Chemistry: Knowledge of basic organic structures, reactions, functional groups and properties needed to understand the reactions of organic compounds in Company products. This includes the understanding of moderately complex principles in order to problem-solve package or ingredient related issues.
  • Basic Inorganic Chemistry: General knowledge of the composition, structure and properties of inorganic substances needed to understand inorganic ingredients (e.g., acidulants, oxygen, water, buffers) used in Company products and in research on stability of ingredients.
  • Customer Focus: Making customers (external and internal) and their needs a primary focus of one's actions; developing and sustaining productive customer relationships; creating and executing plans and solutions in collaboration with the customer.
  • Innovation: Good knowledge of innovation processes and governance of ingredients and claims
  • Proprietary Composition Information: Ability to recognize and protect proprietary information as it relates to formulas, ingredients and nutrition advocacy communications.
